Purpose/History

Five Rivers Bobbin Lacemakers, founded in 1989, is an informally organized group of friends who participate in activities related to bobbin lacemaking. Our goals are to make lace, have fun, and advance the knowledge of bobbin lacemaking.

The group takes its name from the Allegheny, Monongahela, Ohio, Beaver, and Youghiogheny Rivers of Pennsylvania. Most of our members are from southwestern Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, but anyone is welcome to join.

The five-fingered fan of the group's logo represents the five rivers, and the heart represents the friendship that we share.

We maintain an active schedule of appearances at regional craft shows and historical reenactments where visitors are invited to observe lacemaking and even try it for themselves.

The group has several teaching members. Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about this very old textile art.

We invite inquiries from area lacemakers who are interested in learning more about us. Visiting lacemakers are also welcome to share an evening with our group.
